Greenwich 89-10

This stunning 20,000 sq. ft. new-construction Greenwich home sits on 4 picturesque acres, directly on the waterfront of the Long Island Sound. Suspense builds as visitors to the property travel down its grand driveway entrance, a feeling of awe is experienced as this stone Georgian Colonial-style home comes into view. Completed in 2010, this home offers its residents an unperturbed lifestyle filled with splendor and magnificent water views. This home was impeccably designed by the former firm of Hilton-VanderHorn Architects.

This exceptionally well-crafted, stone Georgian-Colonial home has many impressive features. Thirty-two feet below the main floor is an NBA-sized basketball half-court. Executing the court was no small feat, requiring the addition of 2000+ yards of concrete to the foundation. In fact, this home set a record for using the largest structural steel I-beams ever used in a residence at the time of construction. The beams were necessary to support the home and the chimney, which at its highest reached 90 feet above the cavernous basketball court floor. At the peak of the roof, a 20’x40’ concealed balcony was added to fully take advantage of the water views. The balcony is whimsically accessed by traveling through a doorway that is set in the nearly 10 ft. wide chimney. This home also set the record for the largest volume of engineered wood in a single-family home at the time of its construction.

Our “hallmark” project, this home remains to be the most complex and challenging build undertaken by Allen J. Reyen, Inc. The quality in the homes execution further affirms the unrivaled capability and professionalism inherent in Allen J. Reyen, Inc.’s work.
